The Coptic Orthodox Church is one of the oldest Churches in the world established in Egypt by St Mark the Apostle its first patriarch. The growth of the Church in Egypt was a fulfilment of Old Testament prophecy. God blessed Egypt from early times by saying, "Blessed is Egypt My people" Isaiah 19:25. God also said, "There will be an altar to the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt" Isaiah 19:19. The Coptic Orthodox Church is a deeply spiritual and conservative Church that does not want to change any of the doctrines or rites as handed down to her by the founding Fathers of the Church in the early centuries of Christianity.
St. Verena's Church began its services in rented Churches in the Melbourne Central Business District (CBD) in 2007, primarily focused on Missionary work and Evangelism. It also serves Coptic members who work or live near the Melbourne CBD. The Church is affiliated with sister mission Churches in Fiji and Pakistan. Since 2007 the Church has flourished and needed a place for its own. In 2010, we moved to a newly refurbished premises on La Trobe Street, only a stone’s throw away from Melbourne Central Railway Station.
